The Council uses a lot of water - and it all has to be paid for. This project looks at ways we can reduce the amount of water we use to save money on our water bill.
This includes:
- making water conservation improvements such as installing controls on taps to help conserve water
- fixing underground water leaks
- centralising the administration of all water bills, and checking them for inconsistencies and errors to save money.
How much will it save?
We currently spend £660k a year on water, and we hope to reduce that figure by 20%. Schools will be invited to participate in this project too: their water bills total around £1m per year, and it's possible that figure could be reduced by 20%.
Our targets
- To centralise all water bills into one account to check their accuracy
- To claim refunds where we are overcharged and put in place procedures to prevent subsequent instances of overcharging
- To reduce the volume of water that is wasted as a result of leaks
- to introduce a new meter-reading system across all utility services to ensure the council's water bills are accurate.
Strategic plan
This project helps deliver our
strategic plan priority to be financially robust and sustainable.
